Callbacks to the Eighth Series

24 dogs have been called back to the Eighth Series: 3, 8, 19, 23, 24, 25, 29, 30, 32, 45, 48, 49, 55, 72, 74, 78, 79, 81, 82, 84, 92, 93, 104, and 106.

12 dogs have been dropped: 5, 34, 42, 47, 51, 52, 60, 63, 75, 91, 95 and 97.


The Eighth Series will be held at Moonlight Hill. The test dogs will run at 6:30 am and the first running dog, #8, will be at 7:00 am.

7TH SERIES – BEHIND THE LINE SCRAPBOOK – PART I

The sixth day of the 2018 National Open was a challenging one. Even with the late start, the snowy (and muddy) conditions proved to be demanding on the Grounds crew and the Field Trial Committee. The following photos will give you an idea of what the state of the grounds were.

"Chief" and Mark came to the line at 1:21 pm

Blind – Initial line through the bales to the water – L to get in – R verbal back for swimming direction change – R to line up for the point and get onto it – L over to get off it – Right verbal angle back and R angle back to get on point by the bird – 1 Right over to the bird.

82. FC-AFC MUDSLINGER'S AMAZING VISION, "T Bone" LM, Clint Avant

"T Bone" and Clint came to the line at 1:15 pm

Blind - A quick L back through the slot – 3 R backs to the water – a L back half way across the first pool and one more L to get him to the point  2 verbal backs to the point – 1 L back to adjust landfall – 1 Right Back off and through the water – 1 Right back half way through the second pool to put him on the bird.


81. FC-AFC DOTTIE RAY'S LEAGUE OF HER OWN, "Dottie" LF, Andy Kahn

"Dottie" and Andy came to the line at 1:10 pm

Blind – 1 L through the bales – 1R and 1 L to the pond – 2 verbal angle back left – and 1 L to get close to the point – 1 L to get on – 1 Left over to get off – 1 R to get direction towards the bird – 1 Left over to land – 1 R over to pick up her bird.


79. FC-AFC SILVER STAR'S WATCH'EM LIKE A HAWK, "Hawk" LM, Ray Voigt

"Hawk" and Ray came to the line at 1:05 pm

Blind – Great momentum through the slot all the way to the shore, a quick whistle and he was in the water – 2 L backs carried him to the point – 2 L overs and he was off the point across the 2nd pond adn to his bird.

78. FC-AFC COOL FUEL MH, "Nitro" LM, Rich Pingatore

"Nitro" and Rich came to the line at 1:00 pm

Blind – Lined through the bales – L angle – R and L whistle to get in the water – 2 R overs to adjust line in the 1st pond – 1 verbal back to reposition line to the point – L verbal back to get off point and 2 R backs carried him to the bird.

75. FC-AFC COLD BLACK JACK, "Jack" LM, Paul Sletten

"Jack" and Paul came to the line at 12:55 pm

Blind – 1 whistle through the slot – a Right back whistle after the bales followed by a series of 5 backs to get positioned into the water – a Left back in the water followed by a Right back so he adjusts his approach to the point – a L back onto the point and 1 L back whistle off the point, followed by 3 whistles to the bird.

74. FC SEASIDE'S GORGEOUS GEORGE, "Clooney" LM, Alan Pleasant

"Clooney" and Alan came to the line at 12:50 pm

Blind – R back to get through the bales – carried this line into the pond – L angle back for directional change while swimming – R angle back whistle to get on point – L verbal back to get off – Right verbal for the move to the bird.

72. FC-AFC ROUGH CREEK'S LIBERTY BELL, "Bella" LF, Mark Medford

"Bella" and Mark came to the line at 12:45 pm

Blind – A quick handle through the slot and L followed by a R cast to enter the water – a R back and she maneuvers through the first pool nearly to the point  – L back with a cast onto the point – 2 L casts off and she's nearly across the 2nd pond, one back cast in the water and she is up to her bird.


63. FC-AFC LKY'S CONTROLLED CHAOS, "Riot" LM, Kenny Trott

"Riot" and Kenny came to the line at 12:39pm

Blind - Lined through the bales – R back then L – L verbal back to get in the water – R back to get direction change in the water – L back then R back to get on point – 1 cast to get off into the 2nd pond – verbal R back for direction change – R angle back to get on shore and to the bird.

60. FC-AFC HOCKLEY CREEK'S SWITCH HITTER, "Mickey" LM, Robby Bickley

"Mickey" and Robby came to the line at 12:35 pm

Blind – First whistle in the slot – 2 R back to adjust to the water and 2 L into the water. Across the first pool to the point. 2 L over off the point to carry him across the second pool and to the bird.

55. FC-AFC LOCK FIVE'S GOT HER BLUE GENES ON, "Baby" LF, Ray Voigt

"Baby" and Ray came to the line at 12:29 pm

Blind – Lined through the bales – 3 left angle back casts to get in the water – 2 L angle backs to have correct line in the water toward the point – R verbal back to get on point – L over to get off – R verbal back to get out at the bird.

52. FC HOLLAND CLIFFS RED LABEL, "Ruger" LM, Alan Pleasant

"Ruger" and Alan came to the line at 12:25pm

Blind – Lined through the bales – 2 L verbal backs – 2 L backs to get in the water, came back on land – a verbal back and over got him back in the water –  2 verbal L backs got to the point – 2 L and 3 verbal L skimmed the 2nd piece of water, 1 L to the bird.

** Conditions Report ***

Snow has been falling for a good portion of this test today. Dog-to-Handler vision is still good. Work for most dogs has been very similar. There is a bit  of a wind pushing towards shore which is already appealing to most, given the temp and conditions; there have been a number of dogs requiring multiple whistles in the first pool to get them to the point. The second pool and cast off continues to challenge as well.

"Harry" and Al came to the line at 12:21 pm

Blind – Lined through the bales – 3 Left to get in the water – 2 Left over to adjust his line to the bird – 3 left overs got him off the point and to the bird.


49. FC-AFC LEICA SABERTOOTH, "Tiger" LM, Dave Rorem

"Tiger" and Dave came to the line at 12:17 pm

Blind - Lined through the bales – 1 L and 2 R backs to get in the pond – 1 L in the water – a right verbal back to line up for the point – a R back to get on point – L over came off the point and carried the line through the pond and to the bird.


48. FC-AFC SUNDOG'S MAXIMUM PURSUIT, "Max" LM, John Henninger

"Max" and John came to the line at 12:12 pm

Blind – Lined through the bales into the pond left angle back to swim towards the tip of the point, right angle back to get on – L over to get off – R angle back to get correct line to the bird – a L over to pick up the bird.

47. FC-AFC STRAIGHT TO THE HEART-DAGGER, "Dagger" LM, Johnny Armstrong

"Dagger" and Johnny came to the line at 12:08 pm

Blind – Lined through the bales – L whistle to get in the pond – L to get on a line to the point –  A verbal Left sent him flying over the tip of the point in running into water, took this cast all the way to the bird.

45. FC-CFC SWEETIE'S EASY RIDER, "Ford" LM, Jim Gonia

"Ford" and Jim came to the line at 12:03 pm

Blind – Lined through the bales, 2 L to get in the first piece of water, a R verbal back adjusting line towards the point, carried the line to the point, 3 L whistles to get off the point, 1 cast to get into the pool then on to the bird.
